WILLIAM R. DAVIS
LLOYD KELLY

MARJORIE MASON

It's hard to believe that we are already two weeks into August.  This summer season is going by quickly but there is still so much going on here on the Vineyard.  Next week the island will play host to three summer event favorites, The Grand Illumination, the Oak Bluffs Fireworks and the Agricultural Fair.

The gallery's Summer 2016 Exhibition with William R. Davis, Lloyd Kelly and Marjorie Mason has been very well received.  We continue to add new works to the exhibition as they arrive to the gallery.  To view the works by these artists please click on their paintings to the left.

Other artists with new works are featured below in this newsletter.  They include Jan Pawlowski, who recently spent a week painting on the Vineyard, Russell Gordon and Duane Alt.  Duane is now in his early 80's and continues to enjoy painting up to six hours every day in his studio.

We hope that enjoy this newsletter and please let us know if you have any questions.  If your summer travels include the Vineyard, please stop by the gallery and say hello.

My best,

Christina

JAN PAWLOWSKI

Jan Pawlowski began his formal art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.   The academy, which did not teach Impressionism, placed an emphasis on Modernism.  Jan considers himself primarily self taught in the style of Impressionism.  It is the style which he can best express himself and his feelings.

RUSSELL GORDON

Russell Gordon was born in 1968 in Maryland.  He began drawing at an early age.  He says   "In those days in school you could read or draw as soon as you were finished with an assignment so I learned that the benefit of doing well in class was the privilege of being left alone to draw. I loved drawing and found art to be the best way to record what I saw in nature and to express ideas and emotions."

DUANE ALT

Duane Alt came upon his fascination with and ultimate mastery of Impressionism in a somewhat indirect way. He was born in a small town in Nebraska in 1935 and raised in Southern California. While still a teenager, he began his formal art studies at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, and in the 1960s, he studied art at the Sorbonne and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. It was there that the heritage of the Impressionists captured his heart and influenced his personal style.
