It's finally starting to feel like summer here on the Vineyard and with the season upon us, we are very excited to announce details about our 2016 Summer Exhibition with William R. Davis and Lloyd Kelly.   Both Bill and Lloyd have been with our gallery for twenty years so we are celebrating this milestone with an artists' reception on Saturday July 2, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  There will be soft music and light refreshments.

Island artist Marjorie Mason will also be in attendance for this celebration.  We will be featuring this year's collection of paintings of Martha's Vineyard.  Marjorie has developed a large following for her work and each year her collection is always very well received.   Visitors really connect with her work because she captures a fond memory for them to take home from their time spent on the Vineyard.

Featured below are new works by artists David Bareford, Fi Katzler and John Powell.  I met Fi Katzler last fall during my trip to Provence and we are pleased to have her work in our gallery this season.  Her work is very colorful and spontaneous.

I hope you enjoy this newsletter and if you have any questions please let us know.  If your travels find you on the Vineyard, please stop by the gallery for a visit and to say hello.

Best,

Christina

DAVID BAREFORD

Born and raised in New Jersey, David Bareford moved to New England after graduation from college.  Fascinated by the watercolor medium as a student, he achieved success early and had his work regularly shown in the exhibitions of the American Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America and the National Academy of Design.

FI KATZLER

Fi Katzler was born in Malta and grew up by the coast in Hampshire.  She has always had a love of the beautiful landscape around her and for as long as she can remember she has had a passion to be creative.

In 2008 Fi and her family moved to Aix-en-Provence where she was inspired by the wealth and variety of the stunning landscape surrounding her. Fi soon became more and more engaged in developing her painting skills.

"Backyard Quiet"
JOHN POWELL

John recalls one weekend in particular when long hours were spent in the studio listening to his father and artist Will Foster discuss color.  "I was on a bus going home to Hollywood. The evening was warm and the shadows strong. Suddenly it hit me - there they were all the colors my father and Will were talking about.  The trees weren't just green, they were blue and purple and orange. I think of that as my awakening." This recollection of those early years is significant, as it is not merely the facility of the hand that makes the artist; it is the ability to see.
