This original map of Canada ou Nouvelle France, dated 1683, is by Alain Mallet (1630 – 1706). This map is from the French edition of his Description de L’Univers and shows the east coast of the United States from the Chesapeake Bay north to Greenland. The map has several interesting depictions, including the Great Lakes open ended on the west and the island of Bermuda in the lower right corner. The title is in a strapwork cartouche and the border shows the latitude and longitude. There is an Indian family with child in the upper left corner. The map is in good condition. The framing is done to conservation standards with a museum mat and carved gold frame.
