Monte Becker

Monte Becker became a year-round resident of Martha’s Vineyard during the early part of 1999.  He now resides and paints at his home in Chilmark.  It was always the plan for the Becker family to live here when their daughter graduated from high school, and now Monte is surrounded by the Island’s natural inspirations.

Monte Becker's work has been shown in galleries throughout New England for many years and his work can be found in both private and corporate collections.

Monte often visits museums and is always drawn to American Impressionism because for him it seems to elicit passionate emotions and he draws inspiration from these experiences. He describes his painting as, “an intimate view, a small slice of life that evokes the big emotional response; like a memory."

Monte Becker feels that, “the process of learning the craft of painting is a long one, but not as long as the process of becoming a person.  I discovered that an artist must develop as a person in order to develop as an artist.  Paintings reflect the artist whether he or she wants them to or not.  That is why I am striving to be a student of nature.”
